Heart Niagara to Move to the Heart of Downtown Niagara Falls

Move to provide the community with improved accessibility to programs and services

For nearly 40 years, Heart Niagara has been committed to delivering community-based health services, public education and health promotion.

Last year, the registered non-profit charity saw over 20,000 people in Niagara through the Healthy Heart Schools’ Program, community preparedness, diagnostic services, smoke cessation and corporate wellness initiatives.

To continue Heart Niagara’s mission of providing children and adults with the education, training and tools necessary to take control of their heart health, they have developed several complementary programs.

In October 2015, Heart Niagara launched an innovative strength training program and facility called, HeartCore.  Age and ability friendly, HeartCore membership has steadily increased due to its unique high-intensity, low-frequency weight training that takes only minutes per week to complete.

With Heart Niagara’s tremendous growth and success in program delivery, board members recently announced the organization’s relocation.

“It’s in the best interest of donors, funders and our community that Heart Niagara relocate to space in the heart of our community,” explained Heart Niagara’s Executive Director, Karen Stearne.

On July 5th, 2016, Heart Niagara will relocate to 4635 Queen Street in Niagara Falls. The new 6,661 sq ft. space will allow the organization to increase services and improve access to programming in Niagara.

Board Chair, Sheila Hosking, identified the challenges with success. “Heart Niagara will be reaching out to the community to support our move to a store front location,” Hosking said. “We have secured a 10 year lease with the owner and the build out was completed at their cost.  However, with growth there are development costs.”

Therefore, Heart Niagara will be launching a campaign to cover program development and moving costs which are estimated at $60,000.

“Heart Niagara relies on community events, donations and grants to continue our investment in the health of Niagara families,” Stearne said. “Once again we are reaching out and will ensure every dollar donated and raised stays in Niagara to support Niagara.”
