I’ll admit, when I first heard of Pokemon Go there was no way I was going to start trying to “catch em all”. But when I started hearing news reports that the game was getting people active and out into the community, I thought I would give it a try.
Soon after downloading the game, I discovered Heart Niagara, located on Queen Street Niagara Falls, is in the middle of a Pokemon hot spot! Queen Street, or The Q as it is referred to, features several gyms and endless pokestops. I will definitely be exploring more of the Q to see what else is out there!
To date, I have caught three Pokemons, including one in the back entrance of Heart Niagara- it was a great way to start my day! (As I was writing this I caught a fourth one at our reception desk!)
Physical activity is a critical element to a healthy lifestyle and for many of us we could use a bit more activity. Pokemon Go will get you out of the house, into the community and get you active- and you will have fun in the process!
Heart Niagara is offering FREE guest wifi for Pokemon Go users- come in and say “I heart Pokemon Go!” and we will provide you with the password!
U of T suggests Pokemon Go may be one of the solutions to increasing activity and reducing sedentary behaviour-“Not only does the game make the recommended 10,000 steps per day easily attainable, it’s also challenging people to explore different areas and meet new people. It’s a phenomenon that could help address Canada’s increasing levels of sedentary behavior.”
