Heart Niagara is comprised of a qualified Board of Directors, staff and volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. Our trained, experienced and passionate team aim to provide innovative and effective cardiac health education and services for all 12 Niagara municipalities.

Position: Event CoordinatorHeart Niagara’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations
Location: Niagara Falls, ON
Status: Contract Hourly Rate $15.00 Hours 40 hr week

Start Date: June 5 End Date: August 16

Purpose / Overall Accountability
This position develops, promotes, communicates and markets Heart Niagara’s Anniversary project, including both researching and writing. The position is critical to support Heart Niagara’s 40th Anniversary and the expansion of the Heart Niagara’s network of influencer to improve access to health services for client with a high risk for CVD (premature and future)

Duties and Responsibilities:
The role of the 40th Anniversary Event Coordinator is to coordinate and manage the events leading up to Heart Niagara’s 40th Anniversary in September of 2017.

The event coordinator is tasked with managing and coordinating promotion, sponsorship, ticket sales, logistics, and other details related to the events.

This position works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and marketing/fund development team. Tasks include • database management, input and tracking; • sponsorship relations • event planning, including logistics • marketing and promotions through multi-level media • event day support • volunteer recruitment and management. Upon hiring this candidate will further develop the 40th anniversary events and will manage and report details to the larger group.

Education, Training and Qualifications:
•Keen interest in event coordination and community development
•Communication skills in English, verbal and written
•Proficiency in the use of computer technology and various software applications (ex. Microsoft Office, Google Chrome and Email)
•Open to working with a variety of people. Functions effectively within the various teams at Heart Niagara and works professionally, collaboratively and respectfully with all partner organizations.
•Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is required.

Must fit the Canadian Summer Jobs requirements;
(a) is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
(b) was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
(c) intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
(d) is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;
(e) is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* (international students not accepted)
(f) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

Position:  Community Health Educator HHSP Follow-Up Study and Promotion
Location: Niagara Falls, ON
Status: Contract Hourly Rate $15.00 Hours 35per week

Start Date: June 5 End Date: August 16

Community Health Educator is responsible for delivering programs and services related to health and the healthy Heart Schools’ Program. These programs may include workshops, cooking classes, physical activity classes, building partnerships between similar organizations.

The ideal candidate has a health promotion background or passion for health education, is focused, and one who enjoy problem solving and capable of performing multiple tasks as both an individual contributor and team member. The candidate should have a keen interest in research and data management

Duties and Responsibilities:
Heart Niagara is looking to meet current demands for heart health information, programs and services by adolescents, teachers and families.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in program and service development schedule,
• Promote and recruit participants for programs and services
• Provide communication and promotional materials to key stakeholders
• Opportunity to author blog posts, social messages, and web articles
• Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services
• All other duties as required

Education, Training and Qualifications
Microsoft Office Suite proficient, familiarity with Google Analytics and data analysis an asset. Health promotion, public health, nursing, and/or community development experience from a university or college program. Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is required.

Description:
Health Promotion/Public Health- use of theories and knowledge to create programs and services to education the public on health information;

Community Development- connecting theories with real world practice of engaging community members and stakeholders towards the goal of increase health outcomes; Nursing-translate clinical knowledge to plain language to be delivered them to public;

Education- using teaching tools to be used outside of the classroom as a strategy for health education;

Recreation and Leisure- using theory and classroom experience to build programming to improve health outcomes by promoting and increasing physical activity. All fields will be required to deliver practical programs and services to the public using an experiential learning model of health education; physical activity, cooking, health information workshops (blood pressure, heart attack vs cardiac arrest etc.)

Please note that staff, students, and volunteers must have a recent Criminal Record check. To participate in the Healthy Heart Schools Program, a Vulnerable Sector check will be required.
