Health Professionals

In the grade 9 Healthy Heart Schools’ Program, heart health assessment results letters are sent to the student’s health care professionals. The results letters include our in-class measurements as well as targets and percentiles for waist-to-height ratio, blood pressure, cholesterols, and more. It is Heart Niagara’s hope that these results letters will increase communication between students, families, and healthcare professionals.

As risk factors for heart disease are more commonly being found in children and adolescents, it is important for a dialogue about heart health to begin at an early age.

Areas of concern are highlighted in yellow on the results letter. Families may contact you about these results and you may wish to follow up with students to repeat tests. If there are any questions or inquiries about the letters sent to health care providers please contact Heart Niagara by phone at 905-358-5552 or email (info@heartniagara.com).

The Stay Healthy Targets (specific to 14-year-olds / grade 9 students) page is based on the Integrated Guidelines for Cardiovascular Health and Risk Reduction in Children and Adolescents: The Report of the Expert Panel published by the National Institutes of Health (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health-pro/guidelines/current/cardiovascular-health-pediatric-guidelines).

Accuracy of non-fasting cholesterol test: The cholesterols are assessed using the Alere Cholestech LDX® System. Please see the slides from a presentation done at the 2011 Obesity Summit.
