Paving the Path to Wellness: A Community Workshop Series

Wellness is often defined as the optimal state of health among individuals or groups. While optimal health and wellness is the goal, it is not always easily achieved. In striving for wellness, you must take a positive approach to living. The Paving the Path to Wellness workshop series will introduce you to various topics, each focusing on a different methods you can use maintain and improve your personal wellness!

Workshops will run every Monday from October 25th to December 13th, each at 3:15-3:45pm. A special session will run on November 29th, with a Lunch n' Learn taking place from 12-1pm. See schedule below for more information about each workshop!

Managing Stress with Mindful Meditation

Stress is something that everyone has to manage at one point or another, however, too much stress over a long period of time can be detrimental to our health. Practicing mindfulness has been proven to help cope with long-term stressors and resulting health issues. This presentation will outline the negative effects stress has on the body and give you the tools you need to begin practicing mindfulness.

The Truth about Fibre

It's time to bust the myths we hear daily regarding fibre! This workshop will present the hard truth while busting the myths surrounding fibre, all while focusing on the benefits of increasing fibre in your diet. In addition, learn two new delicious recipes that are easy to make and help increase your fibre intake!


November 1st 

Happy Being Me

This workshop will focus on the importance of body acceptance and celebration. After leaving, participants will have increased awareness and the tools to practice self-love through a body positive attitude!

November 8th

What's Happening in Your Heart: Are Your Prepared?

What do you do if you or someone around you begins to suffer from cardiac arrest?Will you be able to identify the warning signs? This workshop helps attendees understand what cardiac events may look like, how to spot the signs and symptoms, and how to best be prepared for any emergency!

November 15th 

Power Foods and Exercise for Your Brain Health

Nutrition and exercise are vital in preventing memory deterioration and brain disease (dementia). This workshop will increase awareness about how healthy lifestyle changes can affect brain function long term, and how this can impact our quality of life!

Use it or Lose it: A Guide to Improving Flexibility

Don't wait until it is too late to start maintaining your flexibility! This workshop will review the advantages associated with improving flexibility now, and the implications that this can have on range of motion and flexibility later in life!

Surviving and Thriving with A Chronic Disease

In this workshop, participants will learn what a chronic disease is, and some of the most prevalent types in Canada today. Further, participants will learn how chronic diseases may impact your ability to complete activities of daily living, and how to manage this during a diagnosis to improve quality of life!  

 December 6th

Setting Yourself up for 2022 Success

With the new year quickly approaching, it is important you set yourself up for success in the year ahead. This workshop will introduce participant to new strategies for setting goals, and ensuring you adhere to them throughout the next year for success.

Social Determinants of Health: A Community Lens

A variety of factors influence individual and collective health and wellness. Social determinants of health (SDH) refers to the various social, economic, personal and environmental aspects that have the ability to positively or negatively influence our health. As a result, these factors widen the gap of health inequities within the Niagara region. The presentation will highlight various SDH and their impact in the region, as well as provide resources and solutions for workplaces to support employees.
