Poached Pears – Heart Niagara

Poached Pears

Prep Time: 1 Hour Servings: 6 servings Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients:

Pears

  • 6 small-medium firm pears, peeled
  • 1 bottle of wine (red or white, sweet or dry)
  • 1/4 cup agave
  • 1/2 cup of strawberries
  • (Other fruit can be added to vary the flavour)

Sauce

  • 1 can of coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup of agave

Directions:

  1. Peel pears. Add pears and other fruit in to the sauce pot
  2. Cover the pears with wine. Drizzle the agave on top of the pears
  3. Bring wine to a boil. Let boil for 15 miutes. Turn the head down to medium or low for 15 more minutes (if pears pears are still hard, let boil until pears soften)
  4. In a frying pan, heat coconut milk and agave. When mixture bubbles, reduce heat. Stir until sauce is a carmel texture. Add some wine from the pears.
  5. Plate pears and drizzle with sauce
